Working in an outpatient orthopedic clinic assisting the physician with patient care and documentation. Assisting in the operating room for surgical procedures, making rounds in the hospital on post-surgical patients, taking emergency room call with the physician, and being available in the rotation for office call.
ROLE SUMMARY Working in an outpatient orthopedic clinic assisting the physician with patient care and documentation. Assisting in the operating room for surgical procedures, making rounds in the hospital on post-surgical patients, taking emergency room call with the physician, and being available in the rotation for office call. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO) â€¢ Assist physician in surgery â€¢ Assist physician in office based medical clinic â€¢ Communicate with physician, OR staff, patients, and other clinical staff regarding physician preferences â€¢ On-call coverage for office and emergency room in conjunction with the physician rotation â€¢ Communicate with patients regarding treatment â€¢ Assist with documentation and order sets in the electronic health record â€¢ Compliance with HIPAA and OSHA guidelines â€¢ Detail oriented with ability to read and interpret diagnostic imaging reports, lab values, physician notes, and other medical information â€¢ Ability to present information and respond to questions from patients, co-workers, and physicians â€¢ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by physician QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS â€¢ Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program â€¢ BLS/ACLS/PALS as required for credentialing â€¢ Certification at the State or National level â€¢ Ability to be credentialed for insurance participation and hospital privileges â€¢ Maintenance of skill set through continuing education PREFERRED SKILLS â€¢ Excellent oral and written communication skills â€¢ Experience in orthopedic surgery â€¢ Familiarity with electronic health records â€¢ Ability to adapt to different and changing circumstances TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to remain standing and stationary for prolonged periods of time in the operating room. Ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, reach and lift up to 50lb. Will need to occasionally be available for long hours. TYPICAL WORK CONDITIONS (ENVIRONMENTAL) Frequent and/or possible exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, ionizing radiation, bodily fluids and other exposures typical/common of a clinical setting.
