The Medical Assistant performs patient-oriented procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in a private practice setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct patient to proper exam/treatment room; prepare patients for examinations and other procedures Enter patient information into electronic medical records Assist physician with procedures and data entry into electronic medical records as directed Instruct patients in all appropriate procedures Maintain, clean and/or sterilize medical and laser equipment Mix medications for injections and topical solution, when necessary Remove sutures and apply steri-strips Transport post-surgery patients to their next destination Collect, label and document specimens and transport to laboratory for frozen sections Log all biopsy results; send copy to appropriate physician Screen pharmaceutical representatives Order and maintain inventories of supplies; set up stock areas for daily use; clean and sterilize equipment Clean exam rooms between patient visits Handle properly the disposal of infectious and/or hazardous waste; clean autoclaves Perform other tasks as assigned PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of Medical Assistant training program or sufficient on-the-job experience. Prior clinical experience in plastic surgery or dermatology is desired. Ability to multi-task. Good interpersonal skills with physicians, coworkers and patients. Physical guidelines include ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours/day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in turning, assist patient in arising from exam table, push wheelchair patients, and assist patient in arising from and returning to wheelchair.
